What This Helps You Understand

Who acted

The actor identifies the account recorded with an operation; check account responsibility before attributing the action to a person.

What was recorded

Operations can include report queries and administrative actions. Inspect the actual record rather than assuming every entry is a configuration change.

When and with what result

Time and status help sequence the review. They do not replace the underlying details.

A Practical Review Workflow

01

Choose a UTC window

The pictured Audit screen labels its date fields in UTC. It supports a window up to five days; a date-only end includes the day, while an end time is exclusive.

02

Filter the records

Use search and status filters to narrow the review. Include technical events when those events are relevant to the question.

03

Open the details

Read the recorded actor, operation, time and status, then inspect the available details for that record.

04

Correlate and document

Compare related login or connection records where needed and document the conclusion for the review owner.

When the Result Is Not What You Expected

An expected entry is missing

Check UTC conversion, the selected window, status filters and the technical-events option.

A row is not on the first page

Use the rows-per-page control and pagination before concluding that the record is absent.

An actor is unfamiliar

Validate the administrator account and related access records through your account-management process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Audit the same as SIEM?

No. Audit records administrative operations. SIEM detections identify configured conditions for investigation.

Does every row show a before-and-after change?

Only interpret fields actually present in the record. A report query and a settings change may have different details.

What should our team test?

Perform an approved, low-impact action in a pilot and verify the resulting audit entry using a suitably scoped reviewer account.
